The Talent Engagement Suite offered by Handshake has been widely used by campus recruiters to attract and source top talent for entry-level roles and internships. Recruiters have found it easy to connect with the best students at big career fairs, saving time and reaching a broader audience. They have also utilized the platform to advertise university jobs and events to a diverse set of students, running campaigns to target specific students for job applications or event attendance. The Talent Engagement Suite has proven to be particularly effective for college recruiting, allowing recruiters to announce their attendance at college fairs and funnel more students to their colleagues. Additionally, Handshake has been used for summer internship recruiting and increasing brand awareness by hosting events and attending career fairs. Solopreneurs have also found Handshake helpful in finding interns and benefiting from their additional perspective in their business. Overall, users have praised Handshake for its ability to provide targeted sourcing and attraction approaches, consolidate recruiters under one account, organize and promote virtual and on-campus events, as well as offering valuable data analytics to gauge the return on investments in college relationships and hiring of students. However, some users have expressed frustration with signing up for the product and its lack of user-friendliness and support. Despite these challenges, Handshake remains a preferred platform for campus recruiting efforts due to its comprehensive features that help drive attendance at career fairs, encourage job applications, and provide insights into recruitment strategies.

Based on user reviews, users commonly recommend the following improvements for Handshake:

  1. Simplify the login process and consider integrating with LinkedIn. Many users suggest that Handshake should streamline the login process to make it more efficient. They also recommend incorporating LinkedIn as an alternative login method, which can save time and provide a seamless experience.

  2. Provide clear indications of interests on profiles. Users advise indicating as many interests as possible on their Handshake profiles to increase the chances of finding relevant job matches. By highlighting their areas of interest, users believe they can enhance the accuracy of job recommendations and improve their overall experience with the platform.

  3. Ensure updated technology compatibility. Several users suggest using Handshake with up-to-date technology to avoid potential technical issues. These users recommend using compatible devices and browsers to optimize performance and reduce any potential disruptions while using the product.

It is important to note that these recommendations reflect common feedback from users, but individual experiences may vary. It is recommended for users to explore the features and capabilities of Handshake that align with their specific needs before making a decision.

I am a campus recruiter, so I use the Talent Engagement Suite to create segments and campaigns to attract and source top talent for our entry-level roles & internship positions. While I am out on campus during our busy season, I can easily connect & engage with the best students at big career fairs. However, there are several other schools that have the exact kind of student we are looking to hire, and I can't always engage at every university during a busy recruiting season. The Talent Engagement products help me to passively source new students at different schools to reach a broader audience than I could manage on my own. It saves me time and helps me find the best students- win win!
  • Ease of use
  • Saves me time
  • Helps me engage in meaningful ways with candidates virtually
  • More easily connect the segments into the campaign. I'd rather not have to start on the segment page for a campaign I'm hoping to create.
  • Analytics page could be broken down to show me specific analytics per job to compare and contract (instead of viewing 1 job at a time)
Compared to bulk messaging students who are listed as 'matches' on the job listing page, the segments & campaigns I created were so helpful in identifying leads & helping to convert those leads to applicants without me having to continually follow-up with students (thank you- follow-up email feature!)

For roles that require a lot of applicant flow, or for positions that require a large cohort of hires at one time, these features are perfect.

We use Handshake to advertise our university jobs and events to a diverse set of students. The ability to run campaigns allows us to first post jobs and events and then run campaigns to target specific students to encourage them to apply to our posted jobs or attend our posted events.
  • Great customer service
  • Ability to source diverse candidates
  • Wide reach among students
  • Ability to directly source and reach out to specific candidates (rather than just a whole pool with campaigns)
  • More flexibility over the way postings look to allow for creativity
  • More details about students on their profiles to make it easier to source the right candidates
Handshake is well suites to times when you want to drive a larger (and/or more diverse) pool to your job postings and events. You can send out a campaign to target the types of students you want to target and these campaigns have been proven to increase the engagement with our events and jobs. For example, before hosting an in-person campus event, I run a campaign to invite relevant students at that school to my event and I've seen an increase in event attendance. Handshake is not the tool, however, for looking through and contacting individual candidates as there is no way to look through individual profiles - you have to run a campaign first for a general job or posting and then individuals can respond to your outreach and that is when you are able to view their individual profile and contact them.

Handshake Talent Engagement Suite has been a phenomenal addition to our Early Careers team's acumen. Before, we had to travel to every school and career center to get access to the students, but with Handshake Talent Engagement Suite we are able to interact with a diverse set of students from all over! Also, we can promote jobs and events with the tool. We can see the analytics behind interactions as well, so it helps when strategizing if our recruitment and engagement techniques are working or if we have to pivot. In a non-traditional technical field like my company, we may not be the first brand that students think of, so having Handshake Talent Engagement Suite to get into the forefront has been a lifesaver.
  • Analytics of Applicants and Campaigns
  • School Scope
  • Candidate Outreach and Management
  • AI matching of potential candidates for closed roles since right now the roles have to be posted
  • Integration with Workday Recruit and other ATS
  • Correct grad year for students because information can be outdated
Handshake Talent Engagement Suite has been well suited for Early Careers and entry-level recruiting, but less appropriate for professional recruiting and for our EMEA counterparts.

We use Handshake for all of our campus recruiting efforts. We send campaigns to students to drive attendance at career fairs and encourage them to apply to specific jobs. We also use Handshake to garner insights into where our efforts are paying off.
  • Support for Campaigns/Student Engagement to drive attendance and applicants
  • One platform with all schools and one hub for students
  • Insights reports are generic and hard to get "company specifics"
We are able to reach thousands of students in the click of a button and stay engaged/drive applicants to meet our recruiting needs

I use Handshake Talent Engagement Suite for mainly two purposes: 1. College recruiting - I register my company for college fairs. Then I make a segment (a select group of students) who I send a campaign (message) to announce that we are attending the college fair so that they will come visit us at our booth. Its a way that I can funnel more students to my colleagues when they are attending a fair. 2. Salaried and hourly roles - when the position that we are recruiting for can accept a new grad or recent grad, then I can post positions on Handshake Talent Engagement Suite and send campaigns out based by major/background. I do this to better advertise a role and I funnel those candidates to the job posting on our corporate website. I do this for myself and other recruiters that do not have Handshake Talent Engagement Suite access.
  • allows me to target specific majors and message them
  • allows me to target specific graduation years and message them
  • allows me to message an audience without a particular university affiliation and message them
  • add an "occupational health and safety" major
  • add an easier to read calendar so i can see all of the events we are attending company wide
  • allow us to save different company descriptions - CRH doesn't have any traction with career fairs. Ash Grove Cement does, so I find I am always having to delete the CRH description and put in the Ash Grove one.
Excellent for:
Internships
Part-time roles
Developmental programs for new graduates with 4-year degrees
Roles where the person just needs to have 1-2 years of experience plus a degree
Diversity recruiting

Not as good for:
highly technical roles that don't require 4-year degrees (ie electricians)

I manage the company profile/brand as well as search for career fairs to attend. I research the students the recruiters would like to engage with at the fairs to confirm what organization should attend the fairs. Handshake helps us to reach a much broader candidate pool throughout the nation and attend career fairs we might not have been able to find on our own.
  • Provides relevant career fairs
  • Registration for career fairs is easy
  • Search bar - love being able to search for the types of fairs we are interested in
  • It would be great to get emails of recommended career fairs based on what we have already attended.
Without Handshake, my team would have a hard time searching and registering for career fairs. It is an amazing tool to reach fresh candidates and build brand awareness. The ability to connect with students across the nation all in one platform has made a positive impact on our recruitment strategy.

We have used Handshake Talent Engagement Suite to connect with educational providers to meet and talk with students to get them to learn about our company and also apply as possible future new hires. This has given us the ability to build our pipeline for new hires and we use it to identify new talent. Additionally, this allows students to learn further about our company and the opportunities and jobs that we provide.
  • Great User Interface
  • Streamlines connection to possible new hires
  • Ease of Access
  • Increased opportunity to connect with students
  • Function to talk directly to candidate in application
  • Enhanced support features
  • Ability to add internal comments on prospective new hires
  • Ability to share certain job descriptions to select individuals
This product is well suited if you are looking for new hires and need the ability to find and identify them very quickly and efficiently. This might be less appropriate for a company that is not hiring directly out of college and may not need the ability to find and identify talent immediately. We were looking for a certain amount of new hires that we needed to fit a specific skillset and by using Handshake Talent Engagement Suite we were able to target specific students with that skillset and get them interested in the position.

Handshake allows us to source specific talent that are otherwise difficult to identify through traditional sourcing channels. Utilising Handshakeā€™s large network of early talent candidates, we can be very targeted in our sourcing and attraction approaches, and drive more intimate touch points with candidates. We are currently using with great success in the UK and USA.
  • Sourcing
  • Innovation
  • Flexibility
  • Automation
  • Integration
  • Ease of use for recruiters
It is best suited for targeting specific sought after talent - and it is not well suited for hosting virtual events or touch-points to engage with larger audiences.

Our organization was initially in need of a tool to help organize and promote virtual and on-campus events. As an enterprise organization, we also needed to improve our brand presence and overall awareness of our company at universities. Handshake was the perfect platform to help us work with colleges & universities to better communicate opportunities to connect with Magna. Once we were able to get our events running, we were able to quickly expand to centralizing our external corporate presence, consolidating our recruiters under one account, improving employer brand and awareness, and getting large-scale campaigns for events and career opportunities activated.
  • Segmentation - Great options to target relevant students/degree programs
  • Messaging capability - Simple & streamlined. Able to easily commuicate with students
  • Managing company users - Easy to approve/disapprove employees who request to be associated with the company
  • Ability to delete events that were not approved by a school or were cancelled.
  • Canned content/template integration, so users can select & customize a campaign within the platform.
Handshake's Talent Engagement Suite is a perfect fit for our organization's busy campus event schedule. As an enterprise organization that recruits from a plethora of colleges, universities & trade schools across the country, having a central way to share opportunities to connect and meet our recruiters and SMEs is vital to our success.

Handshake Talent Engagement Suite has been a tremendous tool post-pandemic. We pivoted to a hybrid recruitment strategy (in-person and virtual) events. We've been able to reach more schools than our previous campus recruiting efforts. I love the real time updates with student profiles including majors, student organizations, etc. Additionally, the insights module has given us data to continue to build and evolve our strategy.
  • segment filters
  • insights module
  • more community colleges
Handshake Talent Engagement Suite has been the best early talent tool and platform for my team. We will continue to use Handshake & Insights to evolve as better recruit diverse populations not only a 4-year degreed schools, but also 2-year degreed schools. We enjoy the insights, segments, campaign and updates that have been made to the tool over the years.

We used Handshake Talent Engagement Suite in the past to register for career fairs, post our internship opportunities, and message students. We needed a tool that could help us elevate our brand on campus and target students more effectively which were the big reasons why we decided to upgrade, in addition to getting data and insights on how we were resonating with students.
  • Targeted messaging
  • Find target schools
  • Data and insights
  • There are only a couple of fields on the company profile that are dynamic (customizable) for students
  • Automation of job postings to certain schools with SuccessFactors
Handshake Talent Engagement Suite is well suited if you have a large intern program (100+) and a robust campus recruiting schedule (20+).

We primarily utilize Handshake Talent Engagement Suite for our summer internship recruiting, but have also used it to increase brand awareness through hosting events and attending career fairs. This has helped us target specific audiences focused on certain skillsets and diverse groups for roles that are difficult to fill or are traditionally less diverse. We have also been able to connect with over 1,300 schools, many of which we never would have gotten in contact with had it not been for Handshake Talent Engagement Suite.
  • Talent segmentation that allows you to hone in on specific or broad skillsets
  • School connections that allow building tons of school relationships across the country
  • Customizable campaign messaging that allows you to reach a wide variety of students
  • I would love if there were a better way to filter by experience. Currently, it's based on graduation date but a lot of my talent segments pick up people with 10+ years of experience that recently started or completed another degree. This is frustrating for the candidate who receives a bunch of misplaced messages and for recruiters who have to explain why they received a message about an internship they are clearly overqualified for. Can we separate grad year from years of experience in the segmentation somehow?
  • I wish there were an easier way to "blacklist" candidates who were rude or expressed a sentiment of never wanting to hear from me or my company again. These are people that I don't want to accidentally include in a campaign message 6 months later.
It is very well-suited for internship or early-in-career hiring/raising brand awareness. While it may not be the primary focus, there is certainly room for improvement to become more friendly to experienced professionals as well.

My team uses Handshake to source candidates and to promote events and jobs. We use Handshake on a daily basis to fill roles in our early career programs. We are very focused on recruiting women in tech and military candidates. When sending campaigns for jobs and events, we use the underrepresented groups categories to target these groups.
  • Answering questions
  • Resolving issues
  • Keeping Fiserv updated on new features
  • allow users to adjust the specific time that campaigns are sent
  • allow flyers for events/jobs to be uploaded in the platform
Handshake is great for recruiting early career talent. I use the platform to recruit for Fiserv early career intern and analyst rotation programs. Handshake is always adding new schools to the platform, so my team feels connected with many schools when trying to fill our roles. For roles that require more experience (10+ years), it is more difficult to find talent.

Not an easy system to use. Trying to sign up for my company and it will not allow me to do so. I am a new employer/franchise and cannot seem to get any help or support to sign up for my company. Why is it so difficult to have a system that is the friendly users?
  • 0
  • Allowing to register company
  • Having live support or any support . Current support does not work
First, it should be easier for employers to sign up for their companies. Second, the support system is terrible with no one that an employer can contact for help. Do not understand why a system is put in place to help others be successful in life but is not a user-friendly system?

We registered with Handshake to engage with Universities across the UK, to recruit graduates for a marketing position in the Trust. Handshake allowed us to post one job across multiple Universities, without having to write the job multiple times.
  • Multiple universities in one place.
  • Free to access for employers.
  • The Trust Score for employers is deeply flawed.
  • The interface is difficult to navigate.
  • The .com and .co.uk domains do not talk to each other or redirect.
  • Their customer support is fast at responding, but is not able to provide the resolutions needed.
For a small business looking to recruit graduates, Handshake is outright obstructive. Even if a University chooses to engage with you and trust you, the platform's algorithms can still block you from accessing their students. The company insist that the scoring system is weighted to accommodate all types of employers, my experience is that this is far from the case. This platform is only suitable for large businesses with multiple jobs to post, and with significant HR resources. I've never found posting a job so difficult.

We are a small liberal arts college and we use it to recruit student workers for student employment and work study. We share the "workspace" with six other colleges which are geographically connected. For example, if one posts a student job at Pomona College, it would then be seen at all the sister colleges if one so desires. Handshake is also used by undergrads under the guise of the Career Services Office. I can not comment on that usage therefore I will focus on how we use it to recruit students for on campus employment.
  • It gets the word out that you need to fill a position.
  • It seems that students can easily search and find jobs with the system.
  • From my point of view, one who posts the jobs, Handshake is just overly complicated.
  • From a default configuration, this thing about killed my email in-box. Way too chatty.
If you want a ton of job applications that come at you in a chaotic manner and are hard to keep track of, and lots of stress, then Handshake is for you. Handshake seems like it is making an effort to solve every type of problem and offer every kind of feature. However, it does few tasks well. I might add that our implementation that uses a total of 7 schools makes things 7x more complicated. For example, if I modify something it can get really confusing.

We use Handshake to find seniors in college, looking for roles after they graduate. Our department in HR is only utilizing it. Because college fairs cost a lot of money, we use Handshake to attract students without paying for all the travel/ cost of fair. If we do decide to go to a fair, we still use Handshake to reach out to students beforehand and set up meetings to make the most of our time at the fair
  • Organizing student data
  • Customer service
  • Not every school in there
  • Not all students listed
Handshake is excellent for recruiting teams that are heavy into recruiting campus talent. Handshake wouldnā€™t be as useful for people looking for candidates with more experience. Itā€™s a good fit for people who donā€™t have a huge budget to go to a bunch of college fairs around the country. You have access to the students right there.

I've used Handshake for the past two years to find interns. In fact, it was a previous intern who told me about it in the first place. I'm a solopreneur, so having a couple of extra hands is extremely beneficial, and I knew I could make a great learning experience for an intern as well. I'm a copywriter and marketing consultant, so most of my interns have been PR and marketing majors. And I like the fact that I can target specific schools. Since I work by and for myself, having interns has been terrific in getting an additional perspective for my business.
  • I like that I can target specific schools.
  • I like that I can interact with the university's career department to improve my listing, get feedback, and have them help promote internally.
  • It's not an intuitive system. Even after using it for two years, I forget where features are from time-to-time when I need to edit or make updates.
  • As compared to another site I use, it's a little confusing to figure out where you should add when you're accepting applicants and when the internship starts and finishes.
Handshake is mostly suited for internships or entry-level positions since you can also target recent graduates. Internships can be paid or unpaid, short, long, or whatever you need. But descriptions need to be well thought out and clear, or the university may not approve it. Handshake would not be suitable, I don't think, for trying to find employees more than a year out of college. I don't think of it as a regular job posting site.
